I am 7 weeks post op from my BA. I was told by my PS to leave my dressings on until they fell off, which they finally did yesterday in the shower. Since then, I've noticed my incisions are a little tender and kind of feel like a bruise, especially with a bra on. Also they are pretty red. I'm wondering if tenderness and redness are normal at this point? Thank you for your help!

Answer: 7 weeks These appear quite normal looking on the posted photos. Typically scars are at their thickest and reddest at about 6 to 12 weeks and can be expected to improve over the next several months. All the best.

Answer: Redness and tenderness after breast augmentation Dear BieBie, Thank you for your clinical post and photograph. Seven weeks following a surgery there can still be some tenderness and certainly some redness in the incision. Although difficult to tell from the photograph your incision appears to fall within normal limits of wound healing at this time. Some degree of tenderness will depend upon the inframammary fold closure technique and whether or not the incision was fixed to the chest wall with permanent resorbable sutures. There does not appear to be any infection although you should watch for fevers and chills and spreading redness and if you have any concerns certainly meeting with your operative plastic surgeon would be advised as they are in the best position to reassure you. At this point silicone gel strips along the incision will help fade the redness, some degree of mild breast massage to soften the implants and the pocket is usually recommended by most plastic surgeons and you should follow-up with your operative surgeon to find out the best post-operative advice for your implants at this stage of their healing. Generally, by 6 weeks most patients can return to light and heavy activities and exercise in a sports bra and the incision may take between 6 and 12 months to fade, turn white and soften. I hope this information has been of some assistance and best of luck. For more information, please review the link below. R. Stephen Mulholland, M.D. Certified Plastic Surgeon Yorkville, Toronto
