I had a functional septorhinoplasty 10 months ago. The procedure included spreader grafts, caudal strut, turbinate reduction and septoplasty. My nose is still swollen around the tip and nostrils and along the left side . My baseline breathing is better, but if can't excercise without it swelling quickly. I'm wondering is what I'm describing normal? My nose also still feels slightly numb and firm to the touch. Thanks very much!
Answer: Rhinoplasty Hello! Thank you for your question. As far as I can understand from your question it is very difficult to make a proper evaluation without photos. However, the healing process is due to your skin. If you have thick skin the healing process is up to 2 years. If you can provide photos from front of your face, from the side of your face and 1 meter away I would be able to make a proper evaluation. It would be more convenient to decide with face-to-face consultation. Best Regards!

Answer: Postop swelling, firmness and numbness after septorhinoplasty: Postop swelling, firmness and numbness after septorhinoplasty: the firmness ,especially of the tip area, is due to a combination of scar tissue and the columella strut graft. it is normal to have that at this time and some of it will persist indefinitely. The numbness is due to detaching the skin from the underlying Cartilage and bony structures with some damage to the nerve endings. These gradually regenerate and most or all of the feeling Will probably return eventually. This could take over a year. And as to any asymmetry, this could be the result of swelling, or scar tissue or residual crookedness from the deviated septum. If it is the first two of those it will resolve with time . If it is the last it will not.

Answer: Nose is still swollen and numb / firm to the touch 10 months after septorhinoplasty - Should I be concerned? Hello @Powerful3502, thank you for your question. The process of inflammation depends on each patient, the patient's health conditions, the climate where the patient is located and the type of surgery and trauma that has been generated at the time of surgery. It is not something that is predictable; some patients are well after 8 months of surgery and others may take up to 2 years. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS. Answer: Nasal numbness and residual swelling 10 months after extensive nasal surgery Hi and welcome to our forum! Hi and welcome to our forum! Septorhinoplasty is a very traumatic procedure. The nasal bones are stripped from overlying soft tissue and underlying nasal mucosa and are then broken and repositioned. Nasal cartilage segments are peeled from overlying skin and underlying mucosa. The nasal septum is exposed, broken, and repositioned and in some cases, partially removed. In your situation, you also underwent additional functional procedures. Postoperative swelling is composed of tissue fluid, providing nutrition to the healing tissues. It is an essential component of healing. Although 60-80% of the swelling will diminish over the first 6 weeks after surgery, it may take 18 - 24 months for complete subsidence after the procedure. Sensation over the swollen area may be dulled. The nasal tip is notorious for taking the longest time to heal. Be patient and continue follow up care with your plastic surgeon. Best wishes...
