Hello, I wanted to get my hip dips filled. I was curious if I would be able to sit after surgery as I know you cannot after getting a BBL. I'm not sure if it is the same recovery process since the fat is added to the side hip area.
Answer: Postoperative protocol Dear ReallyRealGal, I understand your concern. It is best that you consult your plastic surgeon regarding post operative care and management (i.e including massage techniques and timing) specific to your case. Your surgeon knows your condition well and has preferences on when and what to use for faster healing and recovery. Post operative care and management depends on the type of surgery performed and the technique used during surgery among other factors. It is best, however, that you follow your plastic surgeon's advice on post operative care management for a smooth and faster healing and recovery. Answer: Recovery difference There are too many variables to give you a yes or no answer. Honestly when I do a hip flip for a BBL they both end up being the same procedure. Most patients need some volume in the hip they’re barrier and they need some volume in the gluteal region as well. So for most patients both areas get at least some grafted fat. The goal is generally to create a smooth continuous S curve and this usually means adding volume in more than just one little area. I have no idea how extensive of a procedure your surgeon is planning on doing so it’s hard to speak in regards to recovery. I will tell you that deliver in consistent quality Liposuction and fat transfer results is more difficult than most people believe. The importance of choosing the most talented and experience surgeon is absolutely Paramount. In my opinion patients should do that by having multiple in person consultations before choosing a provider. During consultations ask each provider to show their entire collection of before and after pictures for the procedure you’re interested in. Simply being shown if you pre-selected sample pictures which most likely represent the best results of the providers career is insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like. For this reason patients should ask the provider to show their entire collection of before and after pictures for the procedure you’re interested in. For fat transfer this means both the area grafted and the area treated with Liposuction. For a fat transfer make absolutely sure after pictures are taken at least three months from the date of procedure since early results look very impressive but do not at all represent final results. For liposuction look for any area of skin contour irregularities and ask the surgeon what areas were treated at what areas were not treated and look carefully at the transition zones between treated and untreated areas. And experience provider should have no difficulty showing you at least 50 sets up before and after pictures for commonly performed procedures. Highly experienced surgeons will have hundreds or even thousands of before and after pictures. The results from the procedures are permanent and to some degree irreversible. I also recommend reading all reviews and various physician review websites avoiding providers with any significant number of justified negative reviews. The absence of justified negative reviews is more important and more telling than having an abundance of positive reviews. Avoid virtual consultations whenever possible and make sure consultations are thrown off that you have a very clear understanding of the procedure including the recovery. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
