Keloid scar remedies? (Photo)

Question

About a year ago, I got a cut below my lip . I ended up getting dissolvable stitches which resulted in this scar. My current doctor says that its a keloid scar and ive received 4 steroid injections. But the scar didnt really shrink. Are there any alternative methods or lazers that can minimize this scar.

Thank you for your question about keloid scar remedies. I would suggest microneedling for this scar. You will typically need 3-4 sessions, about 1 month apart to see the best results. Microneedling can help break down scar tissue, promote collagen growth, and rejuvenates the cells. Microneedling is low risk and has minimal downtime! I believe microneedling would be a great option for you.

Keloid scars are characterized by their growth potential and increased degree of inflammation within the skin. Unlike non-inflamed scars, keloids have the potential for growth beyond the original footprint of injury. Don't give up. Make sure that you are consulting an experienced, board certified cosmetic dermatologist with experience in scar treatments, since it not uncommonly requires multiple treatment sessions using varying concentrations and amounts of the intralesional steroid to be effective, and sometimes even the addition of 5-FU, in order to shrink it. And sometimes, it may also need to shaved down first and the base injected as above. So, make sure you are seeing a specialist. Best of luck.
