Oral painkiller for microneedling?

Question

The doctor office I'm going to do microneedling only offers only 2% numbing cream strength and I felt very uncomfortable every treatment. Is it a good idea for me to take oral painkiller 1h before treatments so that I wouldn't suffer much in pain to complete the prepaid package?

I gave up using topical anesthesia many years ago, after I found that even after allowing it to remain on a half hour or more, and even when using some penetration enhancers, the level of anesthesia achieved in this was was not sufficient for significantly diminishing the pain of any procedure, including microneedling. On the other hand, the injection of a dilute concentration of local anesthetic solution throughout the intended treatment area immediately prior to the treatment works quickly and extremely well, without the need for oral painkillers or topical anesthetic creams. Make sure that you are consulting an experienced, board certified, cosmetic dermatologist. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your question. Often numbing cream is enough, but it has to be given adequate time to absorb. However, it also depends on the settings used. If higher settings are used, then additional pain management would be required, which may include pain medication.
