Does breast augmentation surgery have any impact on weight gain?

Aside from the weight of the breast implants, breast augmentation surgery shouldn’t have any impact on your weight. While you may experience some swelling immediately after surgery, this is only fluid retention and should go away as your recovery progresses and you heal.

You are correct. The only additional weight gain from Breast Augmentation Surgery will be the actual weight of the implants. During Surgery, you will be given a combination of intravenous fluids and anesthetic medicines. This fluid volume may temporarily increase the weight you observe on your scale immediately post-operatively. For this reason, you may seem to “retain water,” however, your weight will return to its baseline after Surgery, plus the weight of the breast implants. I recommend weighing yourself before the Surgery so you can establish your baseline, and then again 1 week after the Surgery which will be an accurate reflection of your “new” weight. Also, I recommend in the weeks leading up to your Surgery that you maintain excellent hydration, nutrition, and sleep pattern so that your body is “physically optimized” for Surgery.

The only weight you would gain from a breast augmentation would be the weight of the implants themselves. Some patients experience temporary weight increase from swelling related to surgery, but that is minimal and resolves quickly.
