Should I do masseter Botox before or after wisdom tooth extraction?

Question

I am interested in doing masseter Botox injections to help with teeth grinding and to slim down that area of my face. However, I will be getting my lower impacted wisdom teeth removed and am wondering if I should do the Botox procedure before or after the extraction, and how long I should wait in between? TIA!

Botox is a powerful tool to treat masseter hypertrophy and shape your face.  Third molar extraction is associated with significant swelling so you might want to do that first and then the botox.

Having the botox treatment before or after your molar extractions is very much a personal preference and can be done in either way.  If you do elect to do the botox after the extractions, you'll want to wait until all the facial swelling from the extractions has resolved and won't interfere in any way with the botox treatments in the masseter muscle. Thank you for sharing your question.  You can do the injections in whatever order you prefer.  As the recovery is easier with Botox, may be best to do this first and then pursue the dental extractions.

I think that having the injections performed prior to your Wisdom teeth extraction may serve you well.  Given that you have a history of severe TMJ there is a high likelihood that your jaw will be stiff following oral surgery.  The Botox would likely help relax the masseter muscles and make your recovery a little bit easier.

Thank you for your question. To have Botox before or after your lower molar teeth extractions is a personal preference. However, there is no harm from having Botox at the masseter muscles before the teeth extraction and will help with teeth grinding, and lower face slimming. Keep in mind, it may take up to 4 weeks to see the full effect of facial slimming with Botox. All the best, Dr Michon
