The only thing I don't like about my nose are my nostrils. I don't want to change the overall appearance of my nose. I only want to narrow my nostrils. I was wondering if there is a surgeon here in Toronto who have done this on African/African American patient before ? Thank you.
Answer: Rhinoplasty, some advices: Thank you very much for the questions. The harmony between facial parts makes us instinctively recognize the beauty... without knowing it, without defining it, just a perception that surprises and captivates us.In this regard, After having analyzed all the info. and photos provided to us, i recommend you perform an Open Full Rhinoplasty, includding narrowing of the nasal base and nostrils, with nasal bones treatment (controled fracture) and alar + triangular nasal cartilages re-shaping.With this procedure you get a delicate nose, better harmonize with your other facial features.Respectfully, Dr. Emmanuel Mallol

Answer: African American Nostril Reduction It is not uncommon for African American patients to undergo a rhinoplasty to narrow the nostrils. If your only goal is to narrow the nostrils then an alar base reduction is the procedure of choice. During an alar base reduction, incisions are made in the crease where the nostrils meet the cheek. Depending on the shape of your nose and the goals of the procedure, a variety of shapes and sizes of skin in this area is removed. This will decrease the width and flare of the nostrils. This procedure can be accomplished while the patient is awake. It should take about 1 hour and the recovery is typically quick and uncomplicated. I hope this helps.

Answer: Alar base surgery Hi there. You appear to be a good candidate for alar base reduction surgery to reduce nostiril size and/or nostril flaring. Oftentimes the procedure can be performed under local anesthesia in the office. Check out the ASPS website or its Canadian equivalent to find a BCPS in your area. Good luck. Dr. Burnett

Answer: Alar base reduction You certainly look like you could benefit from an alar base reduction. Best to be seen in person. You can find a rhinoplasty surgeon in your area by looking at the Canadian plastic surgery website.

Answer: Alar base reduction Dear Angie0307, Thank you for your clinical post and photographs. Analysis of the photographs does show some nostril flaring and a wide nasal base. The left nostril is somewhat wider than the right and a symmetrical alar-based reduction should improve the aesthetics. There are a few excellent certified rhinoplasty surgeons in Toronto that could perform this and get an excellent result. I have been performing cosmetic rhinoplasty for over 20 years and having trained in both plastic surgery and ear, nose, throat otolaryngology, nose is one of the more common procedures that I perform. Toronto is a very multicultural city and over the last two decades I’ve performed numerous nostril and alar-based reduction on ethnic patients or patients with darker skin colour. This requires a careful surgical technique to minimize visible scars and in general this has worked out very well for my patients. The procedure itself is performed under local anesthesia as an outpatient and the post-operative recovery is generally unremarkable. I hope this information has been of some assistance and best of luck. For more information, please review the link below. R. Stephen Mulholland, M.D. Certified Plastic Surgeon Yorkville, Toronto
