I am 12 Days pre op and wondering how bad does it affect to have a glass or two of wine with dinner? I am trying to avoid but there's two dinners that I have to go next week and I might have to have some. Would it be okay? I am little worried my surgery is too close..

Answer: Alcohol 1-2 glasses of wine at a dinner party will not affect your surgery in any way, especially if it were still severaldays away. As long as you consume alcohol in moderation you should be fine. Good luck.

Answer: Drinking after surgery Dear lark1004, Drinking one or two glasses of wine prior to an operative procedure, as long as you are metabolically and physiologically well, should not compromise your outcome in any way. Excessive drinking, of course, puts you at risk for long-term malnutrition as well as compromisability to clot blood. Small amounts of alcohol consumed judiciously 10 to 12 days prior to surgery should not affect the outcome of your surgery. I hope this information has been of some assistance and best of luck. For these types of questions, it is also important you ask your operative surgeon as they may have a differing opinion and you want to ensure that their operative procedures aren’t compromised by any preoperative nutritional decisions you may have made. Sincerely, R. Stephen Mulholland, M.D. Certified Plastic Surgeon Yorkville, Toronto
