My mobile lid is about 1/3 the height of my eyes when they're open. I read lots of detailed descriptions about what the ideal female caucasian appearance is, i.e. the marquardt golden ratio mask. However the literature I read about ideal facial beauty for my race mentions nothing about eyelid size, or whether the ideal eyelid size for the individual depends on the measurements and proportions of other features of the face. I'm trying to determine if I would look better with a blepharoplasty or without it.
Answer: Eyelids Dear 13almw, Thank you for your clinical post and photograph. Some female upper lids can be full of attractive subcutaneous fat above the supratarsal fold and be considered very attractive and “bedroom eyes.” Other very attractive female faces can have very high supratarsal folds and a hollow upper lid. In general, there is a huge variety of what can appear attractive and, so, to have a standard norm for proportion as one might use in the upper middle and lower third of the face with a classic Da Vinci proportions falls down when discussing the upper eyelid. Attractive eyelid generally has some small degree of lid show to show the platform for mascara, long lashes and an eyeliner platform. There generally is very little to no hooding out to the outer margin of the eyelid all this can vary. The skin tends to be smooth and not wrinkled and a fullness can be attractive as long as not protrusive and excessive. These are some of the generalized features from attracted eyelid, but there is no one ideal type. In your particular case, you have very attractive eyes that matches your face. You have a nice super even supratarsal fold right across on the inside to the outside part of the eye and you have a full upper lid or “bedroom eye.” I would not change eyelids at all at this age as they match your face perfectly. As one ages there tends to be periocular changes that may require minor surgical procedures, soft tissue fillers or Botox as you get older, but at this point I would do nothing.
