Hi there. I want to get my butt implants removed as they are completely uncomfortable and they are making me miserable. They have been in for about a year. I would like to know what is proper procedure, to get the scar tissue formed around the implant remove or simply to leave it behind? After my research on any type of implants, I much prefer to have it removed but my surgeon says it’s better to leave it behind. Please help!
Answer: Trust your surgeon If you did your research to locate and trust your surgeon to put them in, then I would trust your surgeon in removing them as well. There is absolutely no research data supporting removing the capsule when removing buttock implants, especially if no “capsular contracture” exists. On the other hand, there is significantly increased risk of bleeding, hematoma, and thus a significant increase in scar tissue when attempting to do so. Additionally, removing the capsule (aka capsulectomy) also more than doubles the time and cost of the procedure...so likely your surgeon is being very fair and reasonable in not taking extra money from you. Hope this helps.

Answer: Buttock implants In most cases, removing the scar tissue is unnecessary. Leaving it behind often leaves the patient with a larger natural size than before putting them in and usually doesn't effect the comfort of the patient. Be sure to choose a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who specializes in this procedure and is well respected in the medical community for it.

Answer: Butt implant removal: removing scar tissue as well? Every case should be taken on an individual basis after exam and intraoperative assessment of capsule. If the PS who performed the buttock implants one year ago is the same PS who will remove them, trust him/her to recommend the appropriate procedure. The implants can be removed and capsulectomies performed at the same time. Realize that your buttocks will look flatter if the capsule is removed.

Answer: Butt implants removal Dear Amby, Posting your back and side view pictures of your buttocks. Sorry about your problems with the butt implants. If the reason for you decision to remove the butt implants is the discomfort that you feel , have you considered consulting with experienced butt implants plastic surgeons ? There is a good chance that in the right surgeon's hands your discomfort can be corrected, using the right technique and right implants. However, if you are determined to have the implants removed, there is no need to excise the capsule, since leaving behind the capsule will not cause any harm. On the other hand, capsulectomy is a big procedure that can be associated with complications like hematoma, pain etc and is much more expensive than just implants' removal. Best of luck, Dr Widder
