My wound is infected after breast lift. What should I do? (Photo)

hi this is my second review I had implants put in in Jan and had a T lift just recently. I am now almost 3 weeks post op. I have a infection wound on each breast. I feel there getting bigger and I'm worried. my surgeon is in Costa Rica I'm in Toronto. I'm finishing antibiotics today he says continue fusidic ointment once a day clean with peroxide once a day but I feel everything I put the cream it makes it worse. u. help :(

I do not think that your situation can be managed long distance or online. You need to be seen as soon as possible by a medical professional who is very experienced in wound care/ infection and ideally, by a local Board Certified Plastic surgeon. The Peroxide is not helpful and there may be a few immediate, serious interventions required, including antibiotics. Please have this seen and treated immediately,Best of luck

Don't mean to pile on, but this is what happens when you travel abroad for a procedure and have no ability to follow up with your surgeon. This forum is not a substitute for an examination and management by a qualified plastic surgeon. Based on your pictures, it appears that you have had some skin loss and possibly some loss of the underlying breast tissue. Without proper management it is possible that the breast implants could become infected.  if this occurs they need to be removed.  Long term peroxide use has been shown to inhibit wound healing.  My advice is to fly back to see your surgeon so you can be evaluated and treated. Good luck!

I will recommend you seek medical attention for this wound. You need consistent follow ups with a medical professional to ensure the wound is progressing and healing. See your plastic surgeon, if this is not possible contact your surgeon and discuss a possible referral to a colleague in your area. Either way you should be seen. Ensure you are educated on signs of infection such as, fever, chills, heat to the area, redness etc. if you are experiencing these symptoms make sure you seek treatment. All the Best.

I recommend finding a board-certified plastic surgeon locally to evaluate your wound. You may need antibiotics to prevent spread of infection if your breast is red. If you don't seek medical attention you may lose your implants.

Dear adiag,Thank you for submitting your photos.  From your clinical history and analysis of
the photo gallery, it appears that you have some delayed wound healing in the
trifurcation point of the breast lift. 
This is a common area for soft tissue flaps to suffer compromised blood
flow and present with delayed wound healing. 
The concern is that, if not properly managed, the black scab or
eschar-appearing tissue may result in full thickness skin loss and exposure of
the implant.  Exposing the implant often
requires removal of the implant, which will compromise your aesthetic
outcome.

It is difficult when you have an operative surgeon that is
from another country, as it requires the expert management of a board-certified
plastic surgeon.  At this point, rather
than trying to manage this delayed wound healing from a distance, you would be
best advised to seek the advice of a breast surgeon who performs a lot of
breast lift surgery and ensure that this heals in an uncomplicated
fashion.  The priority would be to get
primary wound healing without exposure of the breast implants and then worry
about any therapeutic scar intervention secondarily.

Your current treatment is sound. The lower skin was tight and had some skin loss at the lower corner. It will heal. You should see a local plastic surgeon in Toronto who can help you.

Based on your photos, you need to book a flight and see your surgeon as soon as possible.  Having surgery outside of the country to save money is a big mistake, unless you plan to stay near your surgeon for 6 to 9 weeks.  It is important to follow up with your surgeon on a regular basis until healed to avoid complications.  Infections are very dangerous.  Best wishes!
