After a breast reduction, do you recommend sleeping with a bra for life or not?

It stands to reason that if you have large breasts, sleeping with a bra would help support them better.There's no scientific answer to your question but it's a great question.  It's never been studied, so it's impossible to answer it with a yes or no question.  

Each surgeon may have different instructions. I do not think that sleeping in a bra does much at all long term.

I have my reduction patients wear a sports bra for 6 weeks to support the breast tissue while the incisions are healing. After that, I have no restrictions for them in terms of wearing a bra or not.  I do not believe that wearing a bra at night will affect your long term breast shape. Bras do not have any known or suspected association with breast cancer. Hope this helps!

Hello and thanks for your question-In my practice, the post-op bra is used primarily for comfort, support, and holding on light dressings immediately after surgery. In my opinion, any comfortable bra can be worn, although we usually use a stretchy non-underwire. Most women do sleep with their bra on at first, but most are able to sleep without it after a few weeks. In my opinion, you don't need to sleep in a bra every night, since it's unlikely that the bra will have an effect (pro or con) on your final result. There is no link between bras and breast cancer.Best wishes-
