Tummy Still Bulges After Umbilical Hernia Repair

After the birth of my son 4 years ago (delivered by c-section) I was told during my pregnancy my baby had torn my stomach muscles in two. I was advised I had a ventral hernia but had to decide if we were going to have more children before having it repaired. I recently saw a different Dr who advised of umbilical hernia & carried out a repair. I still have a very 'bulbous' stomach, and wonder if I need further surgery? Will exercise sort it? I get very unhappy with my tummy.

I assume you mean a stomach ulcer and not a skin ulcer. There is no known causation in the fo rmer and the latter may be due to decreased sensation in the lower abdomen.

It is difficult to judge, but in some patients who have severe laxity of the abdominal muscle and fascia it is not always possible to get a washboard abdomen.  Also you may want to see your plastic surgeon to make sure your plication has not been compromise. There could be many reason...

This is not unusual for patients to say.  It really takes a good 3-4 months for all the swelling to go down, everything to tighten, etc.  With regards to the weight gain, after a month your weight should be back to normal with regards to weight changes.  I doubt it would still be...

I would recommend getting the hernia repaired (herniorrhaphy) prior to umbilical piercing. it would othervise be possible to damage the hernai dack,

It is totally normal to still have numbness and swelling for 3-4 months after a tummy-tuck and liposuction.  Just be patient, continue to wear some sort of compression garment, and the swelling/ numbness will resolve on its on.
