How tight should compression garment be?

Garment after lipoThis is one of those questions that does not have an absolute answer. Each surgeon approaches it differently. As a result, it is reasonable to assume that there is some wiggle room. Nonetheless, I think the best answer in individual cases like this will come from the plastic surgeon who performed your procedure. are often at the discretion of your surgeon.  Some doctors don't use compression.  I prefer to have it since it makes sense.  My patients wear  it as snugly as they can put it on.  But there is latitude and no one really knows what is 'best'.

You seem to have undergone multiple liposuction procedures in quick succession (2 months). It is always recommended to undergo the second liposuction procedure, if required, only once the skin and soft tissues of the initial surgery have settled down and become soft and supple like original. Therefore your discomfort seems to be a bit more. Regarding the pressure garment you must talk to your Plastic surgeon and inform him about your discomfiture. At times the garment may need to be readjusted, and even restitched which is entirely possible. The garment must be firmly  hugging the body so that the skin and soft tissues fall back in place and any collection inside gets squeezed out, but not so tight that you feel pain or breathless. Also, you will get and feel better as each day goes by.Take timely pain medication and keep moving about the house. It will resolve. Be patient.

Your surgeon will likely have recommendations for you, or better yet, provide one for you.  If you are searching on your own, you may find "stage I" and "stage II" garments.  Stage I is tighter, meant for the immediate post-operative period.  Stage II is not as tight, and is more like a typical girdle.  You should always be able to take a deep breath comfortably in any garment you wear.  The garment should be tight, but not painful.  Your plastic surgeon will be able to direct you to the right garment.
