Is it possible to increase the length of my face with chin augmentation? (Photo)

Question

I have 2 major problems with my face: 1) my chin is quite receded, and 2) my face is very short and round. I'm actually quite happy with the way I look if I spread my jaws and jut my lower jaw out (pictured below), which increases the length of my chin/face by about a cm or so and helps create a V-shaped jawline, but I want to look like that when relaxed. Is this effect attainable with a chin implant? If not, are there any other cosmetic surgeries that could help me achieve the look I'm after?

A chin implant could improve the shape and projection of your chin. When well placed by an expert, a chin implant can last for decades or a lifetime. You can choose a chin with will give you a better projection and smooth the jawline. Rhinoplasty will give permanent improvements to the symmetry and shape of your nose. A consultation with a board-certified facial plastic surgeon is important; for the patient to be evaluated, their goals discussed, and a custom treatment plan decided upon. Yes it is possible to lengthen your face (and bring your facial proportions into better harmony) with a chin implant, and I agree that you could definitely use some lengthening of your lower face.  This would make your face look less round/ square and more slender (as well as more masculine).  You could use more volume of your anterior mandible as well.  This could be done with a more extended chin implant.  Another great option is fat grafting if you desire an all natural option.  You will most likely require multiple fat grafting sessions as your chin deficiency is quite significant.  I would recommend you see several board certified plastic surgeons to go over all these options for you.  Best wises.

Thank you for your question and photos. There are chin implants that will make the chin more projected and there are ones that make the chin more projected and and also longer on front view. You are correct in that a vertical facial elongation is needed. A standard chin implant can not create that effect as it achieve primarily a horizontal increase. You would require a vertical lengthening jawline implant that is custom made to replicate the same effect you get when you jut your lower jaw out and down. That is simulating entire vertical elongation of the lower jaw with some horizontal increase as well.

Hi, I have performed many facial shaping procedures, including Chin Augmentation with dermal fillers or silastic chin implants, for over 30 years.  From the photos, your face has equal upper, mid and lower face vertical segments which means the lower segment does "not" require lengthening. When the chin is weak, this creates an imbalance making the nose appear larger, the mid face top heavy, the lower face looks short, de-emphasizes the lips and allows early formation of a "double chin".  
 Proper placement of a silastic chin implant adds forward projection to the chin thereby creating harmony and balance to the lower face.  Using the same incision, liposuction can be performed to reduce the fat and further shape the neck.  Excess skin, from below the chin, can also be removed through the same incision.  
 I have found that placement of a silastic chin implant, through a small curved incision under the chin (also allows excess skin removal) to be very safe, quick, highly effective and far less invasive than a sliding genioplasty (requires extensive tissue dissection, bone cuts and placement of metal screws and plates to secure the cut segments of bone).  I perform chin implant surgery in 30 minutes or less, often using a local anesthetic alone.  In my opinion, you are a good candidate for chin implant surgery.

Combining a genioplasty with full jawline augmentation is necessary to achieve the look you prefer. Your growth pattern does require width added to the jawine frontally as well as the height you reference. IF you do not want to consider orthodontics, this is a good approach. Posturing your jaw forward does tend to imitate this augmentation
