Two thing I’m worrying about the surgery is having scars around the areola. Next thing is when I raised my hands craters occurs on both sides of the chest. Also left side nipple indent towards the body. can that issue be corrected? This surgery was done by a general surgeon.
Answer: Crater deformity Thank you for your photo. It is possible that either too much tissue was taken from this area or that the tissue when it scarred, adhered to the underlying muscle. This is very frustrating. The most common way to fix this is through fat transfer. Fat can be obtained through the abdomen and injected into this area to interpose tissue between the breast and the muscle. Sometimes it takes more than one session. However, it improves quite easily. Please see someone who is very skilled in the surgery and does a lot of fat transfer.

Answer: Gynecomastia results Dear Enthusiastic285120, I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what went wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice. Answer: Craters and Scars A crater deformity is a depression underneath the nipple resulting from removing too much breast gland. This depression can be fixed by a flat flap that covers the indentation. There are many fortunate procedures to cure such malformation. Once the patient has completely healed from the first surgery, fat injection or fat grafting is a medical procedure in which the patient's fat tissue is used to increase the volume in the subcutaneous area of the chest to fill out the malformation or deformity. The fat is reaped from one part of the body to another where excess fat resides and then placed in different parts of the body. Another technique is the fat flap. This technique is a useful one and the large piece of fat tissue that is attached to its blood supply has been rotated into the depression deformity. To get rid of craters naturally using moisturizing oils and facial massage on a small patch of skin will rattle away the scars. The best possible results for scar removal would be using a silicone gel sheet for about 10 days after the incisions are completely cured. The silicone helps in softening and lightening the color and appearance of the scars. Sun exposure should be avoided for the first few months since the exposure can darken the skin and the tissue may thicken. Cover the scar with clothing and protect it.

Answer: Nipple Deformity There is some visible assymetry between two sides. In my opinion it requires liposuction to be done on one side and possible correction of one side nipple with scar release and possible fat transfer to correct. the crater deformity. Also I would suggest wait for at least 6 months before next surgery so that swelling subsides.

Answer: Gynecomastia results General surgeons typically do not have training using Liposuction. Gynecomastia Surgery is typically done with a combination of liposuction and direct open excision of glandular tissue. Your pictures are sub optimal for making a good assessment. It’s possible the procedure could’ve been done better and it’s possible you could’ve done a better job choosing a provider to do it. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
