I've had Bell's since I was 4 but no Dr could ever figure out what I had except a few months ago when I went to the dentist & he diagnosed me with it. Its really made me hide myself in life & I'm just wondering if any type of medicine or surgery of any type could help me get my face back? The research I've done seems like its too late for me to try steroids.
Answer: Facial paralysis I hear your concern. At this point, medication is unlikely to improve your problem. However, there are multiple surgical options that can help restore facial symmetry. It may be beneficial to consult a Facial Plastic Surgeon to discuss your goals and options that can help you reach them. Best of luck!

Answer: Is there any hope for me to be cured from Bell's Palsy after 17 years with it? Fortunately, Bell Palsy typically recovers completely. Depending upon the severity of your existing weakness, treatment options range from Botox to provide symmetry and treat any muscle spasms (if any are present) to surgery to improve symmetry and provide a return of movement to the paralyzed side. Either way, you should have a complete examination to rule out any other possible causes and to determine treatment options. You would be well cared for by most experienced Facial Plastic Surgeons or ENTs. I hope this information is helpful.Stephen Weber MD, FACS

Answer: Bell's Palsy If you have a complete loss of function of a facial nerve, there are newer microvascular procedures that can restore partial movement and symmetry at rest to your face. You should be seen by a specialist in Otolaryngology.
