What is the Difference Between the High Projection, Full Projection and Extra Full Projection? (photo)

Hi, and thank you for the question. It is always best to discuss implant choice with your PS as he/she will have full access to your details and examination findings. Basically projection is how much your implants will project forwards from your chest wall. The higher the projection then the 'faker' the look. With a 12cm base width, the in the Natrelle range to get you from an A to a mid C, you would be expecting 300+ cc's so a moderate profile of around 310cc (~C cup) or a full profile of 345cc (~full C or ~small D) or the fullest profile of 420cc (~D cup)

As the size of implants increase both the width and projection of the implants increase.  However if you assume the same base width, the only way to increase the volume is to increase the projection.  A higher projection implant will have more volume without having the implant look too wide on your chest. However your breasts may not be able to accommodate the extra-full projection if you have not had kids.  The skin may over stretch and you may develop stretch marks after the surgery.  Also the extra full projection may look very fake.  You will need a surgeon who has had a lot of experience to help you decide on the right shape and size. 

Breast implants are categorized as moderate profile, moderate profile plus, high profile and super high profile.  the higher the profile the smaller the diameter for the size volume in the implant.  Usually to achieve more cleavage you would want a slightly larger diameter not smaller.  Consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to answer in more detail your question.

Your plastic surgeon can show you examples of each of the available profiles.  Basically if the base diameter stays the same and the volume increases it does so by increasing the projection.  As you move from low, moderate plus, high, extra high profiles the implant will appear more rounded and less natural.  If your base width is 12 cm then a Style 15 Allergan 339cc implant should get you to a full B or small C, a Style 20 HP 350 cc should get you to a mid C.  Cup size will vary from one manufacturer to another. 

The Natrelle line of implants made by Allergan come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Their smooth round implants are available as moderate, moderate-plus, high, and extra-high profiles.  Each implant has a specific base width and projection. Higher profile implants have more projection. The more projection your implants have the more your breasts will stick out from your body. The moderate-plus implants are very commonly used for augmentation. For patients who want a more dramatic change that people will be more likely to notice I will use the high profile implants if their tissue allows it. I also use the higher profile implants for people who have loose skin and for my reconstruction patients. Good luck with your surgery.

The width, projection and volume of breast Implants are related. You will choose two of these, and the third will be fixed from this.

From the width of your breast (in your case 12cm) and your desired size (from small to mid C) you will want an implant that is about 0.5 to 1cm less than your base and a volume of about 350ml (my best guess from your description). From this, the projection will be dictated.

Exact end results and cup sizes are usually quite difficult to calculate as everyone has a different starting point.

There are many different factors that go into choosing a breast implant size which will correspond with your body dimensions while concurrently achieving your aesthetic results. Some of these factors are: Implant size (CC's), Implant profile (Low, Moderate, High), Placement of the implant (Subglandular vs. Dual Plane) etc. We utilize smooth round cohesive silicone gel 'gummy bear' implants for the best results.

During a consultation your aesthetic goals are heard and taken into account with the measurements of your breasts and the integrity of your tissue, as well as level of ptosis (sag). From here we collectively can find your 'perfect fit'. You are able to try out sizers and different implants in our office such that you can get an idea of what size you would be post-operation. We also offer Crisalix 3D plastic surgery virtual simulator during our in-person and virtual consultations to preview potential results. After your consultation, you will receive your very own implant sizers to take home with you (at a small cost) whether or not you decide to go forward with your procedure.

I usually recommend that my patients stop smoking, take vitamin C daily, and avoid aspirin/ibuprofen and vitamin E 3 weeks prior to surgery. I specialize in the 24-hour Recovery method which minimizes trauma to the breast and decreases pain post-operatively.
