Question

Is it possible to get the bump on my nose shaven without changing anything else and without breaking it? I like my nose but I hate the bump and I really really really want to get rid of it but I don't want to change anything else. I like my nose shape and tip from the front but hate how it looks like for the side. Thanks in advance!

It is possible to only remove the nasal hump and not change anything else. The only thing you have to be aware is that after removing the hump the nose can appear flat. To prevent that problem, we usually bring the side walls closer (osteotomies and infracture). It can sometimes make the nose like a little narrow but the effect is so subtle that you will likely not notice it at all.RegardsDr. JDisclaimer:

The hump can be removed without altering the tip through a closed rhinoplasty without any visible scars.Find a board certified plastic surgeon who has performed hundreds of rhinoplasties.  Look for great reviews and great before

The bridge of the nose is shaped like a pyramid, and, as a result, the more you remove, the wider it looks on the frontal view. Small bumps can be shaved down without any other changes being made. After removing larger bumps, the nasal bones need to be narrowed so that the nose does not look too wide.

From the pictures posted, it seems like the result sought can be easily accomplished. Undergoing any surgical procedure requires careful attention to detail and consideration for different options.  Ask to see before and after photographs and consider obtaining second and third opinions before you make any decisions. This is a procedure in which the best chance of obtaining an excellent result is the first time around. Trust your face to a board-certified facial plastic surgeon or a board-certified plastic surgeon with very extensive rhinoplasty experience.

The answer is - yes - in some cases you can just shave the bump with conservative shaving of the side walls of the nose to create a more desirable shape. Although in many cases hump reduction also requires breaking the bones, there are definitely cases where this is not necessary. Consult with an expert nose surgeon in your local area. Good luck.

It is possible to shave down a bump on the top of the nose without changing anything else.  You would need to be examined to determine if you might be a good candidate for such a procedure.  If you are a good candidate, the incision can be made inside of the nose and a rasp used to shave down the bump without changing anything else.  This works best for bumps that are not very large, and I would say that your bump looks fairly small.

While it is possible to remove only the dorsal hump, the nose may be out of balance. When taking down the hump, a flat top open roof deformity can be created in many instances. Osteotomies of the nasal bones are required to narrow the bridge since the nose is a three-dimensional structure. It is very difficult to give an opinion based on one photograph. It is difficult to answer your question with just one view. Completely removing the hump may make the bridge wider unless osteotomies (nasal bone repositioning) are done. You may choose to have the bump incompletely removed to avoid this problem. This decision can be made during consultation before the operation.
