Nose is too short and looks pinched 3 weeks after rhinoplasty (Photo)

Question

Hi, I had a closed rhinoplasty 3 weeks ago and I feel like the tip looks very high which makes my nose look too short for my face. My surgeon said that the tip still needs to drop 2mm but I'm not sure it will be enough to look normal. I also think my nose looks pinched and I'm afraid that when the swelling goes down, it'll look even worse. Surgeon says it looks good but I think it looks unnatural. Thank you for time!

Hello,Looking at your pre-operative photos, you were a set up for a pinched tip and loss of tip projection with a close rhinoplasty.  Because it was performed closed, you likely only had a reductive rhinoplasty: tissue (bone and cartilage) were removed, with no other manipulation performed. Your nose required a much more sophisticated surgery involving rigid cartilage grafts to shape and reinforce your tip and lengthen your septum. You will need a substantial time to heal, but you should visit a few ABPS certified/ASAPS member surgeons (or their AAFPRS equivalents) who specialize in revision rhinoplasty. Best of luck!

Hello Lau4,I would agree with the other responder that at 3 weeks it is too early to assess the results of rhinoplasty.  Initially the nose will be slightly turned up because of swelling that takes place around the base/lip.  However, your concerns for looking pinched may only increase as time goes on and the swelling resolves.  As you are so early on I would recommend you continue to follow up closely with your surgeon and express your concerns.  As time goes on and the swelling improves you will being to see more of your final result, and if there are persistent issues you can try to find out what can be done.  It is important to at least wait a year before considering any revisions with your surgeon or even with another one.  I hope this helps and good luck.

Unfortunately it's too early to tell how your nose will look a year from now.  Your concerns are valid, however it does take up to 12 to 18 months for swelling to subside and everything to settle.  My advice is to try to stay patient and give it time.  You should make regular visits with your surgeon and keep track of progress with photos and assess it in a year or more.  Best of Luck
