Tanning bed after rhinoplasty?

Question

I had septorhinoplsty on april 18 this year . Since summer is here i've been staying out of the sun and wearing hats for 2 month but i've been wondering if i can go into tanning bad if i cover my nose with sunsncreen . I know tanning bads are harmfull but my complexsion is very very white and it's making me feel self concious . So will a little bit of tanning on the body effect the nose ? Thanks in advance

As you have already mentioned, tanning beds are not a great idea in general due to the fact that they will cause your skin to age more rapidly and increase your risk of future skin cancer.  Having said that, for the first 3 months or so following rhinoplasty, sun exposure will tend to cause increased swelling of the nose, and so I usually recommend that patients are particularly careful during this period.  And finally, don't be self conscious about your white skin.  I'm sure it is beautiful!  Good luck.

Hello,I recommend patients staying out of the sun and heat because it can damage how the nose heals in high temperatures. I would recommend that you don't go to a tanning bed only 2 months post op. Generally speaking, no plastic surgeon is going to condone tanning. That is the enemy of the skin. But, if nobody did it, we wouldn't have a job. Bottom line...tan away. It will do nothing to your healing process.

Rhinoplasty is a surgery to improve the shape of your nose for breathing or appearance. Recovering from rhinoplasty is a long healing process with many rules to help you recover. I ask my patients to avoid direct sun and heat to help with the swelling. Generally it is a good idea to avoid the sun as it damages your skin, affecting healing and making you look older.If tanning in the sun is not a good idea, a tanning bed is a worse idea. I'm shocked they still exist as they put you at higher risk for skin cancer. Spray tanning has come a long way if you feel your complexion is too pale. Safety comes first.
