Hello,Dutasteride theoretically has more potency for hair preservation than Finasteride but a higher side effect profile as well. The use of dutasteride for hair loss is an off-label use according to the FDA. Typically regrowth of both agents occurs in areas where the hair is miniaturized and not where slick baldness occurs. Consider the use of regenerative techniques such as PRP and others and the use of nutraceuticals such as Nutrafol which have a much better side effect profile.Best,Dr. Anil Shah
I do not prescribe Avodart or dutasteride for hair loss for my patients. Finasteride works well and is FDA-approved for this purpose. For these reasons, I use finasteride with great frequency in my practice. Be sure to see a hair restoration expert to review all of the treatment options in detail when considering hair loss treatment. All the best,
Technically speaking it’s not hard. However, the drug is not right for every male and may even be contraindicated. I always say thay it it's a fairly easy task to write a prescription for any given medication. It's a bit more difficult to write out the prescription neat and legibly. The most difficult task is knowing when one should not even be writing the prescription in the first place.
The side effect profile for Finasteride is well known and found to be safe in most patients. Dutasteride is not FDA approved for hair regrowth, has a much longer half life than Finasteride and like most physicians I will not prescribe it for hair loss.
Dutasteride is not FDA approved so a doctor will have to prescribe it off label and most doctor will not do this
