Is a fold in the middle of the stomach normal after a tummy tuck? (Photo)

Thanks for your question! Based upon your photos and my experience of doing over one thousand body contouring surgeries, I think that your central abdomen may have been aggressively defatted, leaving a contour deformity. However, this may just be swelling, & in a few months time, you may look just fine. I’d wait for the swelling to go down for a few months before I committed to a noticeable vertical scar if I were you. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for your question and the photo. Since you are so early in the recovery process a lot of this will resolve. In some patients who have had a massive amount of weight loss and have diminished elasticity, there can be some central redundancy. Best of Luck!

Hi nix.vee,  You are still very early in the healing process so give it a bit of time before getting too worried. For a TT that removed a lot of skin, it may easily take at least 6 months for the swelling to go down and even then, your results may not be at a final stage. I would recommend that you continue to keep in touch with your plastic surgeon and discuss your concerns with him/her. It is possible that you may need more skin to be excise later, but for now, patience is necessary.Best,Dr. Christine Rodgers

However, you are still in the very early stages of the healing process at 1 week  post op.Your will need to be patient at this moment and follow what your surgeon has instructed you to do post operatively.At the early stage of the healing process, the tissues are still swollen. It is still very early in the healing process and I don’t know what exactly was done in your particular surgery it looks like you still have redundancy of tissue.  Adding a vertical component to the abdominoplasty can help with this issue and help contour the overall torso better.  Keep close follow up with your surgeon to see if this might be needed down the line.

Hi there, thanks for your question. Like others have mentioned, it's still early in the healing process. I would wait several months to see how everything settles. Often, liposcultpting is done to create the appearance of a midline raphe. That may have been the attempt here. Best of luck to you.

Thank you for your question. I think adding flour de les resection would have addressed the side to side excess skin. usually we see this in side to side excess skin individuals. Please talk to your PS and follow instructions and re evaluate in 3 months.

You are still very early on in the healing process, so it is important to be patient. One thing I recommend patients do if there is any crease is to ensure that when they place their binder/garment that they smooth the area out and make sure it is not folding over due to the garment or binder. Sometimes it might be necessary to place a thick hand towel to the area for extra compression. I would recommend discussing some other options with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to speed up the healing process in this area of redundancy. Good luck and best wishes!

Thank you for your question.  At this stage in your recovery, you still have a significant amount of swelling, which can take several months to resolve.  I would allow plenty of time for this to occur, as the contour of your abdomen will likely flatten as swelling decreases.  I would not recommend considering any revision surgery until all swelling has resolved and scarring has softened, ideally a minimum of one year after surgery.  Best of luck with your recovery!
