Can you upsize buttock implants in one operation?

Hi If you want to go for a bigger size implant can this be done in one operation. Can you have your smaller implants removed and a bigger one put in in one operation along with the old scar capsule removed ? Or do you need removal, wait for six months then the bigger implant put in in a separate operation. If so , why is this ?

Indeed, upsizing of buttock implants typically involves removing the existing implants and then placing the new larger implants all in the same operation. Of note, removal of the old capsule (aka capsulectomy) is often not required unless the patient has a symptomatic capsular contracture. Glad to be of help.

Yes it can be done in a single surgery. Typically the capsule pocket can stretch after the first set of implants have healed and time has passed.

Yes, in fact this is the best way to get a large implant in a small space. The smaller implant will stretch the skin and tissue for a period of time and then we can swap them out for a larger size in the future. Increased size gluteal implants is directly correlated with a higher complication rate and problems with the implants like the edges showing. It’s also not possible to have larger implants placed inside the gluteus muscle which is the preferred place for gluteal implants.Unless there’s a problem with the capsule the capsule does not need to be removed but simply needs to be opened to make room for the larger implant.
