Does Blue Cross Blue Shield cover the cost for breast implants?

Hello.Thank you for your questions. Because breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure, there is no insurance coverage from any carrier I am aware of. By definition, elective cosmetic surgery does not qualify (as there is no medical indication for surgery).You may have heard of insurance covering the cost of implants in the past, however, this was likely a case of reconstruction following mastectomy for breast cancer. By federal law, breast reconstruction and the associated costs must be covered by insurance as a component of the overall cancer treatment.With regards to your specific concern, there are a number of companies which specialize in helping potential patients finance cosmetic surgery. Don't give up hope though because there are several awesome financing companies, including CareCredit, Alphaeon and United Medical Credit. Insurance companies do not cover this surgery because it's "cosmetic " in nature, they do cover breast reconstruction after breast cancer surgery. There are lots of implant options out there. Most surgeons do offer financing through outside companies such as Care credit for example. My advice is to seek an experienced Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in your area to discuss all these options in detail. Good luck. DrMaz 

You will have no success getting breast implants surgery covered by any insurance plan. Most physicians will offer financing through an outside financing company.

thank you for your question. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover breast implants for anything other than breast issues associated with breast cancer or genetic abnormalities. There are many plastic surgeons that offer many ways of paying for your surgery including financing and payment plans. 

Breast augmentation is considered a cosmetic procedure, thus no insurance coverage is available. Most physicians work with companies that finance cosmetic surgery and can give you contact info for them. Two companies that we use are Prosper and Care Credit.
