Does Blue Cross Blue Shield cover the cost for breast implants?

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately health insurance companies do not cover a breast augmentation as it is considered a cosmetic procedure. However many plastic surgeons offer payment options and outside financing, the most popular being CareCredit.

Insurance companies do not cover this surgery because it's "cosmetic " in nature, they do cover breast reconstruction after breast cancer surgery. There are lots of implant options out there. Most surgeons do offer financing through outside companies such as Care credit for example. By definition, elective cosmetic surgery does not qualify (as there is no medical indication for surgery).You may have heard of insurance covering the cost of implants in the past, however, this was likely a case of reconstruction following mastectomy for breast cancer. By federal law, breast reconstruction and the associated costs must be covered by insurance as a component of the overall cancer treatment.With regards to your specific concern, there are a number of companies which specialize in helping potential patients finance cosmetic surgery. Some offices also offer in-house financing.As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon.
