Normally, it's probably not a good idea to get any kind of skin treatment, including tattoos, right before surgery. This is because these treatments compromise the quality of your skin, essentially "damaging" it and making it more sensitive—and your skin (and body) should be in its best state so that it can recover better from your surgery. Being in a better state also decreases the risk of complications that could occur, such as infection. Having said that, however, if it's far away from the treatment area, like on your ankle, and it's small, then it might be okay. But keep in mind that your surgery may be postponed if you suffer from a complication related to getting the tattoo. The best thing you should do is to ask your surgeon about this. Best of luck!
It is not a good idea to get a tattoo prior to your surgery because of potential for infection. An infection that develops around a breast implant can be problematic and could necessitate need for removal of the implant. It's better not to take the chance and just wait until after you've recovered from surgery before getting the tattoo.
I would not recommend having a tattoo in either the preop or postop phase. I would certainly seek the advice of your PS before having this done.
It is better not have any skin procedure near the surgical area just days before, because the risk of skin infection. Your surgery will be and must be suspended by your doctor. Choose a certified doctor to have your surgery.Dr. Silvia AvilesDominican Certified Plastic Surgeon
Thank you for your question. I advise against any break in the skin such as a tattoo or piercing for at least a month before and after breast implant surgery. The only infection I have ever seen in a breast implant patient was 1 you have had her nipples pierced shortly after breast augmentation. Please take this safe route.
