Can I wear no bra and just a shirt 2 weeks post-op?

Thank you for your question! For my patients having a breast augmentation, I recommend they wear the post surgical bra we provide, for the first 48 hours after surgery. After that, the only bra restriction is no underwire for 6 weeks. They can choose to wear any bra that is comfortable for them with no underwire, or go bra-less. I recommend discussing specific post op instructions with your plastic surgeon. Beat of luck!

When I discuss the recovery of a breast augmentation we emphasize wearing the supportive garment to reach the potential of the procedure. The shape and symmetry are positively influenced by wearing the bra for months.

It is acceptable to use no bra at least for some time. However, we usually recommend to all our patients to use bra strap for at least 3 months after surgery 24/7 to help with swelling and settling of implants. You should keep in mind that it takes one year or longer for implants and breasts to settle after augmentation. Good luck.

Thank you for your question.  I typically tell my patients if they have a special event to go to the can come out of their compression garments for a few hours and then get back into them.  I would suggest just confirming with your doctor if you can only because each surgeon has their own protocol.  Best of luck to you.

Dear shari1030, Every surgeon has a preferred type of bra that they let their patients wear after breast augmentation, as this would depend on various factors like the type of surgery performed and the size of the implant used.
