Is It Ok to Have Surgery If I Was Diagnosed WIth Pleuracy?

I was diagnosed with pleuracy about a week ago. I was given Rx steroids and a Rx for an inhaler called Ventolin. (NO I do not have asthma) I just finished the steroids today and I'm feeling a lot better. I'm still taking it day by day. When I first got the steroid I was told I couldn't have surgery for about 2 weeks. Which will be next week! My question is... is it safe to have surgery next week and should I stop taking the Ventolin or is it ok to continue the Ventolin before surgery?

Pleuracy is a symptom of another problem you are having and not the problem. Sort of like having pain from a sprained ankle. The pain is the symptom. I would be certain that the underlying issue is resolved before I were to undergo surgery.

If the symptoms are resolved and no serious underlying cause was uncovered, it should be OK to proceed, though I would get a check up from your primary physician, and let the anesthesiologist know in advance.

Pleurisy is a non-specific term for inflammation of the lining of the lungs. Once the inflammation is under control you should not have a problem with surgery. Make sure your anesthesiologist is aware of the problem.
