Thanks for your question. Healing after liposuction and BBL is usually pretty straight forward. There is a process of swelling and bruising that peaks at 3 days after surgery and then undergoes the first stage of major resolution in the first 2 weeks after surgery. The lateer phase of healing takes place over the 2-3 months after surgery where everything really settles and softens. It is after this time that we are getting close to the final result, though this varies patient to patient. It usually takes up to 6 months to see the final results.
About 60% of fat from the transfer is retained and the results are permanent. The size will change with your weight just as the rest of your body does. In other words, the fat acts like it was naturally there. You can get a good idea of the final result after 6 months.
Thank you for your pictures and questions. Swelling after liposuction can take 3-6 months to resolve. Try to be patient and discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon as things progress.Best of luck!Dallas R. Buchanan, MD, FACSOwner & Board-Certified Plastic SurgeonVIVIFY plastic surgery
Much of this depends upon the amount of liposuction performed and the amount of fat transferred. In almost all of my patients, I liposuction 5 liters and transfer 1200 cc to 1500 cc per buttock. Usually by 3 months, the swelling is minimal. Kenneth Hughes, MD, ABPS Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Hello RIcutie,I appreciate your questions! Seven weeks is too soon to evaluate your Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) final outcome. Maximum results will take up to 6 months to show. Swelling is a common side effect after BBL surgery. However, you will see significant improvement in the way your body feels and looks in the following weeks. I typically recommend my patients wearing specialized compression garments around the clock for 6 months and getting at least ten lymphatic drainage massage sessions in order to completely alleviate the swelling and discomfort. Be patient during this time and you will then begin to see the final results of your BBL procedure. I would suggest you waiting at least 8 weeks for the swelling to recede and evaluate the results. If you are still dissatisfied with the outcome after 8 weeks, consult with your aesthetic plastic surgeon about your concerns and improvements’ options. Best wishes! Dr. De La Cruz.
Dear Rlcutie,I understand your concern and it is quite normal to be concerned about the outcome following a BBL surgery. However, you are still in the very early stages of the healing process.Your will need to be patient at this moment and follow what your surgeon has instructed you to do post operatively. At the early stage of the healing process, the tissues are still swollen. Once the swelling subsides you will be able to see the final result of your surgery.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Hello dear!!Thanks for the question and provided information as well. You are still early on the healing process, it can take up to six months to see your final results, so please be patient. At the stage you are in, swelling is still normal. If you have any concerns, please follow up close with your plastic surgeon.Good luck :)
Thank you for your question Rlcutie. Don’t worry, you have not seen your final results yet. Swelling may continue for up to 3-4 months after surgery. Your final result should leave you as least as flat if not flatter than your were one week after surgery. I routinely see the swelling and fullness change over the first 3 months, which can be worrisome and frustrating for my patients. Be patient, you’re at least 6-8 weeks from your final result.
at seven weeks results are starting to represent what your final long-term results will be results are typically final or very close to final by three months. At seven weeks results are starting to represent what your final long-term results will be results are typically final or very close to final by three months.I tell patients at six weeks you can start making some assessments. If you are yes feel tender or firm then there may be more swelling that needs time to calm down. Generally when patients are happy at six weeks they will be happy long-term after not happy with the results at six or seven weeks then generally time is not going to make enough difference to change their opinion. Liposuction is limited and patients with thick layers of fat have a potential for large amounts of change while people with thinner layers of fat can only have a more subtle Enhancement.Best, Mats Hagstrom M.D.
