There is no benefit to having such an extensive procedure while you are awake. In fact, it would be more dangerous and less controlled. The anesthesiologist is there to protect your airway and monitor your vital signs, and titrate the anesthesia to just the right level allow the surgeon to concentrate on the procedure.
Some procedures are probably better performed under general anesthesia. Iwould search for the board certified plastic surgeon who you feel ismost likely to give you the best results and who performs hundreds ofthese procedures each year. I would look at patient reviews as well asbefore and after photos on that surgeon's website.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
Aesthetic breast surgery and body contouring can not be performed reasonably or safely under local anesthesia.
Mommy make over is generally a tummy tuck, breast augmentation combination. Combination procedures work well if surgery time is limited to less than 6 hours. A procedure this long would not be comfortable awake. If you are apprehensive about General anesthesia a mommy make over can be done with IV sedation, known as twilight anasethesa.Look for a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon that works with a Board Certified Anasethologist who are experiend in using IV sedation, if you are considering a mommy make over with this technique.
No-the safest anesthesia is general and mommy makeover involves combination procedures- and any Board Certified PS in the US will only recommend general especially for mommy makeover.
Patients could undergo many of the operations that make up a mommy makeover with spinal anesthesia assisted by local anesthesia and sedation. This would be exceptional and would be more dangerous than undergoing a general anesthetic.
You definitely need general anesthesia to undergo mommy makeover. It's not possible to do this procedure with local anesthesia.
A mommy makeover is an extensive surgery consisting of procedures on the breasts and abdomen. I would advise against having this type of surgery done under local anesthesia only. I perform these in an accredited facility with board-certified anesthesiologist while the patient is under general anesthesia. I have found this method to be the safest and most comfortable for my patients.
Some procedures, like liposuction, can be done safely under local anesthesia and oral sedation. Other procedures, like breast augmentation, may require more sedation. A full tummy tuck may require general anesthesia so that the muscles can be tightened while they are relaxed. I would suggest meeting with a board certified plastic surgeon and discuss all your concerns.
Traditionally, mommy-makeover surgery is a surgical procedure that combines breast surgery of some sort along with body contouring surgery at a single surgical setting. The breast surgery can be any number of procedures including breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction and/or a combination of these. The body contouring procedure can involve liposuction, tummy tuck or a combination of those as well. Knowing that the procedures can be lengthy and somewhat involved, I do not feel that the procedures could be done safely while the patient is 'awake'. The type of anesthesia used is a very important aspect of combination surgery, and having a patient under general anesthesia is perhaps the safest method for combination surgery such as this as it allows for comprehensive patient monitoring as well as expedition of the procedures in order to limit the total amount of OR and anesthesia time.
For the patients that are already on pain medicine, we ask that they continue their baseline levels. The supplemental narcotics helps with the surgical pain. It is often best to have the pain management specialist managing the narcotics.
Surgical assistants are helpers to the Surgeon. They are not qualified as Surgeons and hence cannot practice as Surgeons. Letting a non surgeon misrepresent/ falsely represent himself as a Surgeon would be considered against the law in all countries.
You would need a clearance from a hematologist and your plastic surgeon. Depending on the extent of you enemia and if you have any symptoms you may not be a good candidate for the more extensive mommy makeover. Just a breast operation has limited blood loss and may be safe. A tummy tuck and...
