Chin lipo left sagging skin. What is the best way to remedy this?

I had Vaser Lipo 6 months ago and am left with sagging skin and some banding (although still swelling intermittently throughout the day). I’m only 43 and would love to know how to best remedy this.

This is a common problem for patients that undergo liposuction without sufficient skin elasticity for the skin to conform smoothly over the new contour. Fortunately, there are non-surgical methods of skin tightening, such as Ultherapy and ThermiTight, that can put the finishing touches on your new facial contour. I recommend scheduling a consultation with a board-certified dermatologist who can assess you in person and devise a personalized treatment plan that will refine your results and meet your expectations.

I find that VASER liposuction in combination with ThermiRF are best for contouring the chin in those who are candidates, but Kybella can be used as an alternative and gets better results when combined with Thermage/Ultherapy/Exilis or Coolsculpting. Thank you for your questions. Liposuction in this area needs to be done with finesse as an overly-suctioned neck will result is visibility of too many underlying structures and excess skin. At this point, I would consider a surgical neck lift to get the results you want and this is possibly the operation you should have chosen in the first place. These results are becoming very common with over aggressive VASER technique. Only full open neck lift surgery will allow the smoothing out effect of those neck bands, sorry.

The best candidates for this procedure are young with tight skin.  In your case you were a bit over treated and may not have been an ideal candidate for the procedure in the first place.  When fat is removed it shows the underlying structures like platysmal bands.  It is going to be difficult and probably not possible to restore the fat.  A neck lift  it's probably your best option.  That may be more palatable for those who are great candidates for the procedure.  Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
