Which is better for pubic hair removal, IPL or laser? How many sessions are required?

Dear Doctors, I amgetting married in October and I want to have my bikini area hair removed and I am worried about what to choose laser or ipl. I am 23.I have fair skin and brown hair. Is it true that laser gives better results and is permenant. Thank you so very much.

Thank you for your question in regards to IPL. Lasers and IPL both work for unwanted hair for your skin type. To be sure what is best for you, see two or more board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. IPL and laser can both be used for hair removal.  It requires a series of treatments as well as periodic touch up treatments.  Always seek treatment from a qualified professional.  Good luck!

Removal. Laser Hair Removal focuses on just the hair and will usually give you a
long lasting result if you complete the recommended sessions. After you are done
with your sessions, a touch up appointment is needed at least once a year.

Both systems are effective for treatment of unwanted hair.  For fair skin and brown hair, you have the perfect combination for effective treatment with either system.  Our office has both systems and quite frankly we find we are trending toward more Excel HR as this system can switch between both 755 and 1064 in a moments notice allowing us to treat all skin types and through a tan, but before we added the laser, I found IPL was effective with a similar number of treatments.  Get started now!  October is not that far away!

Most experts feel that laser is more effective than IPL for hair removal.  Fair skin with dark hair should be straightforward to treat.  Avoid getting tan prior to your laser treatment.  We don't promise permanent removal which might be unrealistic but most people get long-lasting hair reduction.  The majority of our patients are very pleased with the long-term improvement.Regards,Dr. Ort

Congratulations on the upcoming marriage!  It sounds like you are an ideal candidate for either laser or IPL for hair removal.  In our experience, lasers are more effective, and for you a diode would be ideal.  It attracts to the pigment of the hair to channel to the follicle.  It typically takes a series of 6 treatments to get after the various growth cycles, and potentially a couple of touch up treatments, so you are getting started just at the right time.  Remember, it is best to find a facility that has a Board Certified physician onsite.
