Restylane tear trough - puffy skin vs water retention vs swelling? (Photo)

Question

I had restalyne injected in my tear troughs 17 days ago. I went back to my provider after a week because I had lumps under each eye and I wasn’t sure if it was product that needed massaging or adjusting, or swelling. He said that Hyaluronic acid attracts water, and it was most likely water retention that would go away. It is now another week and a half later and it hasn’t changed. Is there a chance it will go away anytime soon? Is there any way to make it better?

Hi @LisaBelle24. Thank you for sending your photos.  Based on your photos, it looks like the filler was placed very superficial. If the swelling does not resolve after a couple of weeks, I recommend dissolving the product with Hyaluronidase. Best of luck to you, Dr. Nima!

Thank you for your question! Looking at this picture it seems that hyaluronic acid was injected just underneath the skin. This could lead to prolonged swelling. If it does not resolve after three weeks it might be necessary to have some of it removed with hyaluronidase. Best of luck!

Thankyou for your question.I would say that the puffiness is a combination of filler too superficial and water retention. It most likely will not go down so will need to be partially dissolved. I would make another appointment with your injector to have this done .Good luck
