Swelling and redness 4 months after Restalyne injections, trying to get it dissolved - any other options? (photo)

Question

Injectections 4/24 folds, cheekbones and lips - June 10 thru present swelling, redness - injection says inflammatory response - but she had to look up the procedure - I found a great plastic surgeon in ATL having to go weekly to get dissolved - Taking Clindamycin for 4 weeks - What can I do for the swelling - I didn't have this previous and the Med Spa w/ the Dr on staff is not competent enough to handle apparently. How long will this last? I didn't have this before.

Hello.  If you developed your problems months after injection, it's possible you've developed a delayed hypersensitivity reaction.  I think you did the right thing by going to a plastic surgeon to address this.  I agree with antibiotics.  You might also want to consider hyaluronidase to dissolve the filler--the idea being to eliminate or reduce the inflammatory source.  Based on your photo, I would also consider giving you a steroid burst and taper.  Good luck.

Yes, the filler can be reversed with hyaluronidase. It will take a series of injections which may also cause some swelling. Icing, cold compresses, arnika, vitamin C and vitamin K will help give improvement. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Swelling can happen with any type of injection, so you may have swelling after hyaluronidase which may last several days. Also, it can take a series of treatments to fully dissolve filler. I recommend following up with a cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Hope this helps.
