Nexplanon birth control implant: should I schedule with my doctor to have it removed prior to my BA surgery?

I am scheduled to have my breast augmentation surgery in May. I currently have the Nexplanon Birth Control implant in my arm. Should I schedule with my doctor to have it removed prior to my surgery, or can I leave it in?

Jeanette03:  I don't see any reason why you would need to remove your Birth Control implant prior to breast augmentation surgery.  Remember if you do remove it, you may get pregnant which is actually rather common after receiving breast implants.Best of luck to you!G.Robert Meger MD

Hello and thanks for your question. I don’t see a reason to have to remove your birth control for a routine breast augmentation. Sometimes the concern is anesthesia and birth control because it can increase your risks of DVT or PE. For a simple breast aug, I don’t deem it necessary to have it removed. I would most definitely recommend speaking with your surgeon and notifying him/her of the birth control implant and see what his suggestions are. Best of luck on your upcoming procedure.

There is no reason that you would need to remove the birth control implant prior to a breast augmentation.

There is no compelling reason to remove it before your operation, unless the implant has expired.  It will not affect your breast augmentation.  That being said, if you want to make full use of your general anesthetic AND the implant has expired, you may kindly ask your surgeon to remove it at the time of your operation.  Hope this helps!

Hello and thank you for your question.   I don't see why you would have to have it removed ,  I would just mention it to your PS that you have it.  Unless your having a procedure like a bracheoplasty or liposuction to upper arms, you shouldn't have to have it removed.
