Will I have to do double chin CoolSculpting again after pregnancy if I've done it once already?

Question

I am planning on getting CoolSculpting in a few weeks to get rid of my double chin, but I was also thinking that I will most likely get it back during pregnancy. Would I have to do it again then?

Once the fat is frozen away, your body cannot make any new fat cells to replace them. You can see some enlargement of the residual fat cells under the chin - especially during pregnancy - but the fat cells that were successfully targeted with the CoolMini will not be haunting you.

Thanks for your question. CoolSculpting is a permanent fat reduction so those fat cells wont come back. Lucikly, we cannot make new fat cells after adolescence, however, if you do happen to gain weight during pregnancy those remaining fat cells could get larger.

Typically CoolSculpting mini under the chin gets best results with two sessions. It's important to have a personal evaluation to assess the amount of fat that can be placed in the "cup".

Weight gain from pregnancy would likely show up temporarily, but the fat cells that were destroyed don't come back.

coolsculpting and liposuction are permanent, if you gain weight it shoould be elsewhere however some of the fat is still there so there is always potential for the area to get fat still as there are still fat cells there.

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure that uses a vacuum applicator to draw in skin and underlying subcutaneous fat to deliver controlled cooling. This penetrates below the skin causing permanent elimination of fat. The fat cells that were destroyed are permanently gone. New fat cells from possible gain weight will have to be removed using CoolSculpting.

The thing to remember is that CoolSculpting results in permanent removal of about 30% of the fat cells in the treated area. But it does not remove all the cells with a single treatment. The amount of fat cells that you have in your body is set by the time you are a teenager. After that point, it more or less depends on how much you inflate them or deflate them. Since you will still have some fat cells left in the area after coolsculpting, it is possible that some of the double chin will reoccur, but, more likely than not, if you gain weight, it will show elsewhere.

CoolSculpting permanently removes the fat cells, about 22% with each treatment. The good news is that you are no longer able to make new fat cells after you finish adolescence, so you are unable to make new fat cells at this time. It is important to remember that at the end of your day your body looks at how many calories were consumed and how many were burned up. When you take in more calories than you burn up, you will store the excess calories in fat cells somewhere in your body. Usually you will store them first in places besides the neck but if your body fat cells are quite full of fat, then you could use remaining neck fat cells for storing the excess calories. The important thing is to control your calorie load, especially in pregnancy and do not gain more than the recommended 25-30 lbs wt gain during your pregnancy.Best wishes, Mary Beth Mudd

The pregnancy should not affect the amount of fat in one's body. It is the amount of food that the person consumes that creates fat deposits. If CoolSculpting helped your chin, then you may not need to have anything done at all. In most cases, in people with significant amount of submental fat, CoolSculpting is frequently ineffective and liposuction will provide the best results.
