Thank you for your question regarding what to do for upper body after a previous lower body lift. In regards to your back, you need a torsoplasty. There are two types of torsoplasties: horizontal and vertical. A horizontal torsoplasty is also called a bra-strap lift or bra-plasty. During a horizontal torsoplasty, an incision is made across your back in your bra-strap line. This gives the best type of back lift and back reduction for your case. The downside, however, is that there is a scar that goes across your back. The incision may be quite visible if not covered or concealed by appropriate clothing. The benefit is a substantial improvement of the back with elimination of back skin and fat rolls. An alternative is a vertical torsoplasty with an incision from the armpit to down the side of your chest. The advantage of this vertical torsoplasty is that the incision is hidden when your arms are by your side. The disadvantage is that the lift is not as significant as the horizontal torsoplasty. Either way, both of these procedures can be combined with a breast lift or mastopexy. During the procedure, the back is done first and then the breast. Please seek an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon who has performed many back-lifts or torsoplasties. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen.
