Is the use of finasteride after a hair transplant the general consensus among hair surgeons?

Hello, i always assumed that once you had a hair transplant you no longer needed to maintain a regiment of finasteride ?? I'm not talking about maintaining follicles that are genetically predisposed to hair loss , BUT newer transplanted grafts. My Dr says that even newly grafted hair can benefit greatly from ongoing finasteride use. Is this the general consensus amongst hair surgeons ?? Thanks

Yes, that is the general consensus and certainly recommended for best and longest lasting results. Look at it this way, after having gone through a hair transplant procedure, and all that it entails, you will want to do everything you can to maintain the hair you have. This is true whether it's the natural hair or transplanted hair. Hello deanK, thank you for your question regarding whether it is the general consensus of hair surgeons to use finasteride after hair transplantation. The general consensus is that MOST hair transplant surgeons use finasteride. Finasteride inhibits the production of dihydrotesterone (DHT). DHT causes hair loss. Hair transplantation can permanently treat affected areas, but finasteride can help support remaining non-transplated hairs. I recommend the continued use of oral or topical finasteride to help maintain the hair follicles that have not been transplanted, not for the grafts themselvesFor maintenance and improved growth of the grafts themselves I recommend PRP injections.

Once transplant done, Finestride and Minoxidil are advised to be taken because the transplanted hairs grow a little faster and by the way, the real concern of all doctors is that the growth of transplanted hair usually takes place in ten to twelve months. So the hair that you already have should not fall and the result of the whole scalp should look good that's why it is said that I hope you will agree with my answer thank you.

It is important to maintain the grafts - they will be under attack just like before surgery.  So you need to balance the hormones that cause hair loss.
