Iam 5 weeks post opp and have noticed one stitch in my incision after my breast augmentation. Will this dissolve eventually or do I need too get it removed? Will this hurt since it's now 5 weeks??

Answer: 5 weeks post op, will the stitches dissolve eventually or do I need too get it removed? Hello! Thank you for your question. Typically, sutures used for reapproximation of the skin are absorbable and do not need to be removed. However, your surgeon will know which type was used - but at 5 weeks out, they are likely absorbable. Given the description, it may be wise to have your surgeon evaluate your incision to examine for this "spitting" suture. In the meantime, good local wound care is recommended. Best wishes!

Answer: Seeing a suture after breast augmentation It is not uncommon to "see a stitch" or sometimes "feel a stitch" in the incision after breast augmentation as you describe. I would agree that it is best to notify your plastic surgeon and have he or she evaluate it as to whether it is dissolvable or not. If it is is colored (black or blue) then it is not likely a dissolvable stitch and can easily be removed by your plastic surgeon. Sometimes it is actually the "deeper" stitches that can work themselves up to the surface (like a splinter). Either way, please notify your plastic surgeon so they can evaluate it. Do not try to deal with it yourself. I utilize all dissolvable sutures in my patients and if they feel something at this time period, I go ahead and clip it if it is bothering the patient even if it is dissolvable. I hope this helps!
