Does a painful Mondor's Cord indicate a problem?

I'm 9wks post BA with 390cc Mentor silicone HP anatomical unders. I have Mondor's Cord under both breast, however the right one is quite painful at times extending over the ribs to the top of my abs. I can't see the cord, but can feel it with my fingers when rubbing the pain, so it must be a deeper vein. I have read that Mondor's Cord is nothing to worry about & will resolve itself over time. I just want to check that is the case when they are painful?

The mondor's cord is caused by a temporary superficial thrombophlebitis caused by surgical interruption of the blood flow.  It is common and not worrisome unless redness, pain (excessive) or fever accompany the changes.  Take anti-inflammatories and use a warm moist compress!

Mondor's cords are usually painful, especially when these are pressed upon. These do resolve, but you sound pretty concerned and you should speak with your plastic surgeon about your concerns. Only on exam, can they tell if this is a problem for you.Best wishes, Dr. ALDO

Yes, Mondors cords can be tender/painful;  you are correct in that they usually resolve without intervention (although the use of anti-inflammatory and warm compresses can be helpful).  Always best to address specific concerns/questions directly with your plastic surgeon for most meaningful reassurance and advice.  Best wishes.
