I'm fairly insecure about my profile when clean shaven and was wondering if a chin implant would be a good idea. However, my issue is that I don't really want to tell my parents about it. Should I bother?
Answer: Candidate for a chin implant? Without an exam your question cannot be answered. You will need to see an Oral/Maxillofacial surgeon to see if othognathic surgery, genioplasty or using an implant is best for your specific case. It should be noted that patients with severely weak jaws or abnormally functioning jaws may be better treated with other facial surgery (orthognathic surgery), although a chin augmentation may be an option at a later time. These patients should seek the advice of a plastic surgeon to determine which course is right for them. Here is some information to help you make this decision: Candidates for Chin Augmentation - Patients whose chin profiles are weak but have normally functioning jaws are candidates for Chin Augmentation. Many of these candidates have used injectable fillers in the past to strengthen the protrusion of their chins, but are looking for a permanent solution. If you are one of these patients, then you are a likely candidate for chin augmentation #weakchin #chinimplant

Answer: Chin implant options Thanks for posting your photo. You photo demonstrates that you have a weak chin which creates a facial imbalance between your mid face and lower face. You could benefit from chin augmentation. This can be done with an implant although I prefer moving bone of the chin point which is more natural and long lasting without the risk of long term problems. Strengthening the appearance of the chin is likely to be noticed by those close to you, especially your family so you can expect them to notice if you undergo chin augmentation. Once they get used to it, however, they should like the improvement in your profile as would you.

Answer: Unrealistic Any facial operation, even the lightest one, produces obvious stigmas like swelling, bruising and inflammation deformity at the operated zone and its surrounding areas for a period of 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the type of surgery, zone and genetics of the patient. With that said, I notice your profile is suitable for a two-dimensional augmentation genioplasty. You may grossly fit into a 30% anterior increase of the chin and a 70% vertical heigth increas of it. Needless to say... that is absolutely unfeasible with a chin implant; besides its technical limitations let me tell you other disadvantages of chin prosthesis, which are pretty common: dislocation, malpositioning, limited lifetime of the implant, nerve irritation and chronic pain, bone cortex thinning and inprint, fake look, presence evidence, etc.An osseous genioplasty, well done, in expert hands and even in complex designs like yours leads to awesome, everlasting and safe results, with minimal pain and low complications rate.

Answer: 20 year old guy thinking of getting a chin implant, but I don't want my family members to know. Should I bother? Hi, I have performed many Chin Augmentations using chin implants for over 30 years. From the attached photo, your chin is quite weak which creates an imbalance making the nose appear larger, the mid face top heavy, the lower face appears short, de-emphasizes the lips and allows early formation of a "double chin". In addition there is some excess skin below the chin that compounds the above. I perform chin implant surgery in 30 minutes or less, often using local anesthetic alone and find using silastic chin implants to be far less invasive than a sliding genioplasty that requires bone cuts, screws or metal plates. We have placed chin implants in many active males in law enforcement, SWAT, military and professional fighters. We advice them to shave prior to the chin implant surgery and then let their beard grow. The swelling goes down quickly such that shaving at 2 weeks hides the fact that they had surgery. Hope this helps.
