Hi all, Hope you are well. I am feeling very down because of my skin. I always have people thinking i'm 30 but i'm actually 20. I've had severe acne for approx 4 years. I've currently taken accutane for 3.5months with minimal improvement. 1stMonth10mg,2nd20mg,3rd30,4th40mg(will stay on 40mg) Do you think there'll be a fix to my facial skin disaster? Is there any scar treatments you would recommend? I'm really afraid that I will never look like a 20 year old in my lifetime. Thank you so much

Your dermatologist is doing exactly what is recommended when dealing with severe acne and accutane.  The rule is to start off at a very very low dose, as patients with severe acne on regular starting doses can have very bad flares.  I would expect that your course of Accutane will take longer than six months, likely a year.  Accutane is very effective though, and 99% of people do eventually get better.  Once you are off of the acne, typically for at least 6 months to a year, then laser treatments for the scars that are already present can be pursued.Acne itself doesn't age the face, but it can make it looks marred, which some people associate with aging.It is normal to have the improvement be slow, but stick with it, and things will get much better.
