Do all surgeons charge for a consultation?

Not all surgeons charge for a consultation, and policies vary a lot by practice, surgeon seniority, location, and whether the visit is with the surgeon or another team member. In London, it is common for some specialist plastic surgeons to charge a consultation fee, while others offer a free or lower-cost initial visit.

When comparing practices, ask what the fee includes: time with the surgeon, examination, implant sizing or imaging if relevant, written recommendations, follow-up questions, and whether any part of the fee is deducted from the surgery cost if you proceed. A paid consultation is not automatically better, and a free consultation is not automatically lower quality. Hello, thank you for your question. Not everyone will charge a consultation fee. Our own clinic we will charge a $200.00 consultation fee. We charge because this is our time that we put into this and in some instances people will not show up. It is an hour and half of discussion and review medical history along with goals. So we really take our time and make sure that we are a good place for your to reach your goals and meet your transformation needs. If the patient is not deemed fit for surgery and this can be either due to high BMI, medical/surgical history then we will reimburse them the $200.00. If they come into our consultation and choose to go ahead with the surgery then we put that $200.00 towards their surgical fee. Every surgical clinic has their own style of doing things but for us; we found that this has worked out the best and mostly all of our patients are happy with that. Most surgeons in the US do charge for consultations because time is spent examining you and discussing your concerns. Except for the preop visit and actual surgery, this is probably the most time the surgeon will be with you.
