Is Accutane successful second time around?

Nothing is 100% including Accutane and I've have had, over my years of using it, a small number of patients who need a second course to help clear them better.I also have had one or two patients in whom Accutane had absolutely no effect at all -- something I'm not happy about.Because you said the acne came back, I interpret it to mean that you did have some success with it.  I would strongly suggest a second course, but nobody can give you numbers or odds that mean anything.  You're an individual and your results will be yours.  I will tell you that only on extremely rare occasions have I found a patient who needed more than two courses of Accutane.

Accutane has an 85% success rate, so unfortunately, so people will fall into that other category and require a second round of therapy. I've never seen numbers on the success rate of a second round though. There is a range of Accutane that's required for a cumulative dosage - which is between 8000-16000mg total. This is a huge range, so given that, it could be that even though you did everything "right" your dosage simply wasn't enough and you needed a much higher cumulative dose and not just one based on weight.
