Is Emsculpt on the abdomen safe for someone with a history of breast cancer?

I wouldn't EMSculpt over an active tumor, but having a past history of a cancer in another area should not be a problem.  I think you will be happy with your result from the procedure.

I understand why they put the contraindication in their literature, but having a history of cancer in the past should not be a contraindication to getting an EMSculpt treatment. Thank you, this is an excellent question. Emsculpt is contraindicated for someone with a current malignant tumor however, a history of cancer should not be a problem. I am not aware of any studies that show a positive link between EMF and cancer recurrence. That being said, all of our patients that have had the Emsculpt procedure are delighted with the results. Any recommendation from the owning EMSCULPT company using the terms "malignant tumor" should be enough to NOT use this external devise. 

The lawyers working for a medical device companies are going to cover their behind whenever they can.  If you ask them they will tell you that they cannot guarantee anything in regards to cancer risk.  I can’t think of any conceivable way this treatment would activate cancer so the warning about malignant tumors is simply one of those lawyer added liens to keep them covered for as much liability as possible.  If I had a history of breast cancer now in remission I would move forward and live life to its fullest doing reasonable things that made me happy and seems worthwhile pursuits.  If that included  this treatment then I would go ahead and have it.  I would be willing to take the bizarrely theoretical risk of a recurrence which is probably far less than being struck by lightning.  Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
