Can I stop taking medication after hair transplant?

Can I stop medicine which I am using since after transplantation as on 19/08/2013, the medicine in (minoxidil, Fenalo Table, and some multivitamin tablet, I want to stop them now but after yours consultation. please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks you all again.

Most doctors have specific instructions before or after surgery.  It is always a good idea to keep your doctor in on the loop when it comes to medications you are taking.  Doctors generally want  you to keep taking Propecia and Rogaine.

Generally, the supplements and medication that you take following a hair transplant can help protect your naturally-occuring hairs (ie the non-transplanted hairs).  You can discuss your options with your hair transplant surgeon, but I recommend to my patients a treatment plan that includes some combination of  minoxidil, finasteride, oral supplements, and light therapy.  You should discuss all of above with your treating doctor.

Hi FarooqThis is an important question and I would recommend speaking to your surgeon. Stopping the medications is not likely to cause any harm - but you have an increased chance to lose some of your original hair. The newly transplanted hair is permanent but various medications like minoxidil can help keep the hair that you originally had. Your hair transplant specialist can guide you as to whether you are at high risk or low risk to lose more hair in the future if you decide to stop your medications.

It is always best to discuss aftercare recommendations with the surgeon that performed your procedure but generally speaking we recommend that our patients continue to take the hair growth supplements (Viviscal) and use minoxidil to prevent future hair loss.  For your best long term results, consider continuing medications and supplements to help maintain the hair that is there currently.   Good luck

The medications you listed are not critical medications to maintain your hair. The hair transplants by now should be fine
