I had lipo done on my arm, but are not super happy with the transition from the area that had liposuction and my upper arm and elbow. It seems like the liposuction was concentratrated in the middle of my arm. I'm therefor wondering if the elbow area is normally included in an arm lipo or if that would be a separate procedure? Can I expect the areas to smooth out over time? Right now I'm left with a small fat lump on my elbows even though I wore a compression garment for 8 weeks.
Answer: Liposuction If you are less than 6 months from your procedure, you still may have some swelling which increases as you go towards the elbow because of gravity. Otherwise, discuss with your surgeon if that areas was treated. Most of the time, it is.

Answer: Arm lipo includes the elbow. In arm lipo, elbow area is also addressed. This area is done less aggressively because of the ulnar nerve and joint structures to be safe. If you send photos we can evaluate your situation better.

Answer: I’m at Liposuction and what constitutes quality results I like doing arm liposuction and filler I have really mastered this procedure. It’s taken a long time to get here but I finally feel like I can very consistently treat arms and have consistent high patient satisfaction. To put things in perspective I’ve been a board-certified plastic surgeon for 25 years. I spent the last 10 years doing on the Liposuction and fat transfer procedures and have to date that over 8000 liposuction procedure is. arms probably represent 10 or 15% of the cases I do. I Treat Arms circumferentially over the deltoid and blend into the forearm so that there is no obvious transition point going from treated to untreated. Delivering consistent high-quality liposuction results is more difficult than people believe. Most plastic surgeons are competent ar Liposuction but deliver stellar results. Liposuction is also permanent and irreversible so when things are not done correctly it’s very difficult to improve results with secondary procedures. This is especially true for those who have been over treated. If the problem is having been undercheated then a revision should fix the problem. There are no standards for what’s included or what’s not included with arm Liposuction. It’s up to each individual to discuss this with the surgeon during the consultation at which time patients should point out exactly what their concerns are and the surgeon should intern convey what he or she can or cannot accomplish by showing lots of before and after pictures. This is the patients one shot of really getting a clear understanding of what that provider is capable of and what your results are going to look like. Did the other patients in the before and after pictures also have these type of results? For patients having consultations I recommend patients ask the provider to show them their entire collection of before and after armor Liposuction results. An experienced provider should have no difficulty showing you 30 or more before and after pictures and highly experienced surgeons will have hundreds or even thousands of before and after pictures. I recommend patients asked to provide her to show examples of excellent outcomes, average outcomes unless than outcomes. More than anything providers should show as many as possible of previous patients who have similar body characteristics to your own. I recommend patients have as many consultations as it takes to feel very confident they found one of the most talented and experienced providers in their community. The impact of the results affect patients for the rest of their life and there is an enormous variation in outcomes from this procedure simply based on who does the surgery. I suggest you follow up with your surgeon and discuss doing a revision. If you find that the discussion isn’t going well with your surgeon then you can ask them to pull out the before and after pictures they showed you during the consultation and see if those patients had similar contour issues? If you want a formal second opinion consultation then you should schedule that as an in person consultation with another local board-certified plastic surgeon. For second opinion consultations patients should come prepared bringing proper before and after pictures and a copy of the operative report all are we char available from your provider. And the end your surgeon is responsible for your outcome and you are responsible for choosing that surgeon. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
