My 6yo fell into a corner today, splitting her forehead as you see from photo. She had 8 stitches and received an injection against tetanus in the hospital today. Please please, what would be the best actions now for treating the scar? And what would be the best time and method for revision later? She is so lovely, and I feel so terrible and helpless somehow. Please give your advice. Thank you sincerely!
Answer: Recommend doing revision as soon as possible for best results Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started. Answer: Scar on Face -- Lasers, Microneedling/PRP, Subcision, Fillers, Dermaflage/ScarMD I suggest posting photos after the stitches have been removed. I suggest lasers or microneedling 3-6 weeks after the sutures have been removed. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Treating a scar Sorry to hear about your child's fall. Thankfully it seems there was no damage to the eye. Laceration scars tend to heal well since there is usually not a major loss in tissue. Your options are non-invasive scar reduction but this is a very tough age to perform those types of procedures. I often find its better to wait until they are older and have more ability to understand what is going on. Surgical revision is also an option but again something that is often better to wait and see and entails a more invasive procedure (something that young children will not tolerate with local anesthesia). Right now the most important thing to do is take gentle care of the area and give it time to settle down. Children tend to heal better than adults and time will make it better on its own.

Answer: Scars and young children This is very close to the eye so you can at least be comforted by knowing that nothing happened to her eyes!! Yes it looks bad now but it will only get better. New scars are often red for a while but over time it will blend into her complexion. The only advice I would give: keep clean with soap and water....avoid antibiotic creams which often cause rashes. Scar tape or silicon gel pads can help. Please do not do anymore surgery at this age..... Older skin heals better if scar revision is anticipated.Hope this helps you,Dr Beverly Johnson
