Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started. Sometimes the stitches can leave dots on either side of the scar. These stitch marks are scars themselves. Usually, the only way to remove them is to perform a scar revision. Make sure the area is fully healed before doing this. Your surgeon will have to determine if the skin will allow for this and how it should be done.
The impression on the skin after having sutures placed usually go away if the sutures are taken out within 5-7 days on the face, about 10 days on the hand, to name a few. However, some individuals still get them.. You may need a scar revision, but I would wait at least 1 year to allow for softening and complete healing.
Scar revision is the only way to remove the suture impression. The area would need to be examined to make sure you have enough skin elasticity. Hope that helps!
